Nigel lives in Sandbach, Cheshire and is a member of a musical family.
He started his musical journey as a vocalist, singing in choirs and school performances, he has sung in Chester Cathedral, York Minster and at the Opera House in Blackpool.
At the age of 13, Nigel began playing the cornet, and that was the starting point of which has been the focal point of his musical life.
He progressed very quickly and having played with several local brass bands, he then joined the world famous Foden’s Band, where he was directed by Howard Snell, who was to have a great inspirational impact on Nigel’s conducting career.
In 1989 Nigel was appointed Musical Director of the Lions Youth Brass, a position he still holds. Under Nigel’s direction the band has won the National Youth Championship twice and also secured a place in the 2019 European Youth Championship where the band performed at the Stravinsky Centre in Montreux , Switzerland.
During his career he has performed at major concert venues throughout the world, including the Royal Albert Hall, Birmingham’s Symphony Hall, the Bridgewater Hall and The White House in the USA.
Widely recognised for his work within the local community, with young people and in the music industry receiving several prestigious national and local awards.
Employed by The Love Music Trust, the music hub for Cheshire East, Nigel visits primary schools across Cheshire East, inspiring the next generation of musicians.
Outside of his music, Nigel is a dedicated family man and has two daughters.
When not playing music Nigel is also a competitive crown green bowler, captaining his local team and entering competitions all over Cheshire.
